**WASHINGTON** – Former presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is facing an investigation into a 20-year-old incident where he allegedly transported a whale skull across state lines. The investigation comes after a left-wing environmental group, the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund, resurfaced the story and called for an investigation.
Kennedy confirmed the investigation on Saturday, stating he received a letter from the National Marine Fisheries Institute last week. He alleges the investigation is a politically motivated attack by the government against him.
The story first came to light in a 2012 interview with Kennedy’s daughter, Kick Kennedy, in Town and Country Magazine. She recounted her father cutting the head off a dead whale and attaching it to the roof of their car before driving from Massachusetts to New York.
The Center for Biological Diversity claims the whale was protected under the Marine Mammal Protection and Endangered Species Act, making it illegal to possess any part of it. They further argue that the transportation of the skull could be a felony violation of the Lacey Act, which prohibits the illegal transport of wildlife.
Kennedy, who withdrew from the 2024 presidential race last month and endorsed former President Trump, dismissed the allegations, claiming the environmental group is weaponizing the government against him. This incident follows another controversy involving Kennedy and dead animals: he admitted to dumping a dead bear’s body in New York City’s Central Park over a decade ago.
The investigation into Kennedy’s alleged actions is ongoing.
