Sun Sep 15 16:18:12 UTC 2024: ## Retired Army Sergeant Shares Wisdom on Faith, Leadership and Financial Success
**Orlando, FL** – Retired U.S. Army Sgt. Roy Lewis, a motivational speaker and certified personal trainer, shared his insights on faith, leadership, and financial success on this week’s episode of “Black Men Sundays.”
Lewis, the author of “Broken Things,” discussed his journey through challenging times, including his experiences in combat in Iraq, his son’s arrest, and his daughter’s battle with epilepsy. He stressed the importance of faith and how it helped him navigate these difficult periods, stating, “It really tests your faith. It really tests you. If you really believe in God, you know, God shows up, and he did in those moments of where, if he didn’t show up, I would have probably lost it all.”
Lewis also reflected on his decision to join the military, explaining that while he was initially apprehensive, it ultimately provided him with valuable skills and financial knowledge. However, he acknowledged that he wished he had started his own business sooner, realizing the potential for financial freedom and tax benefits that come with entrepreneurship.
Lewis encouraged viewers to leverage their resources and make their money work for them, stating, “I don’t owe the government nothing, I don’t owe them nothing, because I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I wish somebody would have told me this when I was in my 20s,’ but that’s how I learned how now I realize with money, money is a tool. It’s not something for me just to go get, you know, a six pack of beer and pizza on the weekend, my money goes to work for me.”
The full interview with Sgt. Lewis can be found on Season 5, Episode 5 of “Black Men Sundays,” which focuses on building generational wealth.
