**Amlarem, Meghalaya:** The War Jaintia Student’s Union (WJSU) announced the dates for its first scholarship examination, aimed at encouraging academic excellence among students in War Jaintia. The “1st War Jaintia Scholarship Examination 2024” will be held on **November 14th, 2024**, across 14 examination centers for students in Lower and Upper Primary Schools. The scholarship award ceremony is scheduled for **November 21st, 2024**, in Amlarem.
The decision was made at a meeting held on October 14th, 2024, at the Riwar Jaintia Church of God School, Ladjaplem, attended by principals, headmasters, and headteachers from schools across War Jaintia. WJSU Secretary, Bah Alban K Gashnga, highlighted the union’s objective to identify and support talented young students through financial aid. The scholarship program aims to inspire students from an early age to excel in competitive exams and achieve success in their future academic endeavors.
Gashnga expressed the belief that such initiatives will help War Jaintia produce a new generation of skilled professionals, including IAS, IPS, MCS, and MPS officers. He underscored the disparity between the performance of students from War Jaintia and their counterparts in urban areas, emphasizing the need to bridge this gap.
Advisor to the WJSU and president of the Jambok Lanong, Bah K Rymbui (Retd SP), along with other leaders, urged teachers to inform parents and encourage their children to participate in the examination. They also requested support for the WJSU to ensure the successful execution of this scholarship program.
Teachers present at the meeting expressed their full support for the initiative and lauded the WJSU for their efforts to empower students from War Jaintia. Other speakers included Education Secretary A Sumer and General Secretary Everest Langstang.
