Mon Sep 16 12:43:25 UTC 2024: ## Modi Inaugurates Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro Extension, Bringing Twin Cities Closer
**Ahmedabad, September 16, 2024:** Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the second phase of the Ahmedabad Metro, extending the rail network to connect the twin cities of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. The new route, which spans 21 kilometers and includes eight new stations, aims to provide efficient and convenient transportation between the two urban centers.
Modi, accompanied by Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, took a ride on the newly inaugurated metro line, traveling from Sector 1 station in Gandhinagar to GIFT City. During the journey, the Prime Minister interacted with students and other passengers.
The project, a collaborative effort between the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC), the state government, and the central government, connects key locations between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, including GNLU, PDEU, Gift City, Raysan, Randesan, Dholakuva, Infocity, and Sector-1.
The new phase, stretching from Motera to Gandhinagar’s Sector 1, particularly benefits commuters traveling to crucial hubs like GIFT City, offering seamless access for professionals, students, and tourists. The total project cost for phase II was ₹5,384 crore, funded through loans from international agencies like AFD and KfW.
The extended route significantly reduces travel time between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. For instance, the journey between APMC and GIFT City now takes under an hour, costing just Rs 35.
With the extension of the Metro from Ahmedabad to Gandhinagar, a major connectivity problem between the two cities has been resolved, creating a more integrated and efficient transportation network.
