**Ahmedabad, India** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Phase-II of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project on Monday, marking a significant expansion of the city’s public transport system. Accompanied by Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Modi took a ride on the new metro line and interacted with students.

The new 21 km stretch, built at a cost of Rs. 5,384 crore, connects the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Motera to Gandhinagar Sector 1, passing through prominent locations like Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU), and GIFT City. With the addition of Phase-II, the Ahmedabad Metro now boasts a network of 68 km spanning two corridors, with 54 stations (four underground).

The inaugural ceremony was followed by a test ride on the new line, where Modi interacted with students. Later, he also inaugurated the country’s first Vande Bharat Metro, renamed as the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail. This high-speed train will connect Bhuj and Ahmedabad, covering 359 km in 5.45 hours. Regular public service for the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail commences on September 17.

Modi’s visit to Gujarat marks his first trip to his home state after the Lok Sabha elections. Earlier in the day, he met beneficiaries of the state’s free electricity scheme, ‘PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijlee Yojna’, in Gandhinagar. He also inaugurated the 4th Global Renewable Energy Investor’s Meet and Expo (RE-INVEST) at Mahatma Mandir.
