**KOTA KINABALU, Sabah** – The death of a specialist doctor, whose body was found in her Lahad Datu home on August 30, is being treated as a sudden death case, with no foul play suspected.
Lahad Datu police chief Asst Comm Dzulbaharin Ismail confirmed that while the family has alleged the doctor took her own life due to workplace bullying, the police investigation has not found any evidence of foul play. “We have not ascertained the reason for the incident, but our investigation suggests there is no foul play at this time,” he said.
The case has been classified as a sudden death report and awaits a report from the Chemistry Department before being forwarded to the coroner for further action.
The doctor, in her 30s, was attached to the Lahad Datu hospital. Her family, in a social media post, alleged that she was subjected to bullying by a senior official at the hospital, leading to her suicide.
The family member claimed that the doctor, who had become the head of a department after joining the hospital in February, was overloaded with work by the senior official. He also alleged that the official abused their power to oppress subordinates and ignored the concerns raised by doctors and friends regarding the bullying.
The Sabah health director, Datuk Dr Asits Sanna, has said the state Health Department will issue a statement on the matter soon after receiving approval from the Health Ministry.
The police are leaving the matter of the bullying allegations to the health authorities.
