**Volcano, Hawaii** – A magnitude 4.3 earthquake struck the summit region of Kilauea volcano on Saturday afternoon, causing shaking in the area. The quake, which occurred at 4:25 p.m. local time, was centered approximately 4.2 miles south-southwest of Volcano and 23.5 miles southwest of Hilo.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake had a depth of less than 0.2 miles. While the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center confirmed that the earthquake did not generate a tsunami, the USGS’ “Did you feel it?” survey received numerous reports of shaking, primarily from Volcano, but also from Hilo, Keaau and Pepeekeo.

The earthquake serves as a reminder of the ongoing volcanic activity in the area and underscores the importance of being prepared for natural disasters.
