Sun Sep 15 16:18:55 UTC 2024: ## Kamala Harris Holds Narrow Lead Despite Winning Debate: New Poll

**WASHINGTON, D.C.** – Despite winning the recent debate against former President Donald Trump, Vice President Kamala Harris hasn’t seen a significant surge in support, according to a new ABC News/Ipsos poll. While 58% of respondents said Harris won the debate compared to 36% who favored Trump, the poll found Harris maintains a narrow 52% to 46% lead among likely voters, mirroring her advantage in August.

The poll suggests that while the debate may have bolstered perceptions of Harris, it hasn’t swayed voters who were already leaning towards Trump. The majority of Democrats (95%) believed Harris emerged victorious, while 75% of Republicans felt Trump won. Furthermore, 69% of Democrats felt the debate gave them a more positive view of Harris, compared to just 34% of Republicans feeling the same about Trump.

While Harris’s performance at the debate impressed some, it didn’t sway voters who were already firmly entrenched in their political camps. The poll also showed a substantial gender gap, with Harris leading by 9 points among likely female voters (55% to 44%) while the two candidates were tied among likely male voters (49% each).

The poll also revealed that Harris holds strong leads among black voters (89% to 9%), Hispanic voters (58% to 41%), and young voters aged 18 to 29 (59% to 40%). However, Trump showed a stronger-than-expected showing among Hispanic voters compared to his previous performances.

On the issues, Harris holds an advantage on safeguarding democracy, healthcare, and abortion, while Trump leads on the economy, inflation, and immigration.

This news comes as other polls, like the Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll, show Harris narrowing Trump’s lead in key states, including Iowa. While these polls suggest a tightening race, Harris’s overall lead remains narrow, indicating a closely contested election.
