Sun Sep 15 11:25:04 UTC 2024: ## Likud MK Calls for Israeli Occupation of Southern Lebanon to Counter Hezbollah
**Tel Aviv, Israel** – A prominent member of Israel’s ruling Likud party, MK Ariel Kallner, has demanded the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) occupy southern Lebanon to create a “security corridor” and counter the threat of Hezbollah. In an interview with Maariv newspaper, Kallner argued that the current border is “unsustainable” and hinders Israel’s ability to provide security for its northern residents.
Kallner, a member of the Knesset’s Eretz Yisrael Lobby advocating for West Bank settlement expansion, claimed that Israel has two options: establish a “security zone” by controlling the Litani River, or face the impossibility of maintaining life in northern Israel.
“Our reality can no longer continue as is,” stated Kellner. “The sole, unavoidable conclusion is that the current border in the North is unsustainable.”
Kallner’s call for occupation comes amidst heightened tensions along the Israeli-Lebanese border, attributed to Hezbollah’s growing military capabilities. He also criticized Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, calling for his resignation and arguing that Gallant no longer represents the assertive stance Israel needs.
Kallner, however, stressed his continued support for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stating that Netanyahu remains committed to achieving victory despite international pressure.
The Likud lawmaker’s demands have sparked controversy, with critics condemning his call for military action and occupation. The international community has consistently opposed Israel’s expansionist policies and military actions in Lebanon. It remains to be seen how the Israeli government will respond to Kallner’s controversial proposal.
