A fire broke out at the Oko Baba plank market in the Ebute Metta area of Lagos State on Sunday, according to social media reports and official confirmations.
Eyewitness accounts shared on X by user #Stylomedia reveal that shanties within the market were affected by the blaze. “Okobaba Street is on fire now, all the shanties are burning,” the user tweeted.
Confirming the incident, LASEMA spokesperson Nosa Okunbor stated that emergency responders, including the LASEMA Response Team, LRU Fire Unit, and Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, are currently at the scene conducting a search and rescue operation.
The extent of the damage and the cause of the fire are yet to be determined.
