**New Delhi, September 16:** Apple today launched iOS 18, its most significant software update since the original iPhone, bringing a host of new features and improvements across all compatible devices. The update, originally announced at WWDC 2024, centers around “Apple Intelligence,” a new AI-powered system designed to enhance user experience across apps.
**AI-powered Features:**
At the heart of iOS 18 is Apple Intelligence, a suite of AI tools deeply integrated into the operating system. Users can leverage AI to rewrite, proofread, and summarize text in apps like Mail and Notes. The new Image Playground app allows users to generate images based on prompts, offering stylized options for sketches and animations. Siri has also become smarter and more contextually aware, capable of performing actions like editing photos, managing files, and even calling on ChatGPT for complex requests.
**Customisation and Other Improvements:**
Beyond AI, iOS 18 introduces several customization features. The redesigned Home Screen offers more flexibility for arranging apps and widgets, while the Control Center has been overhauled with the option to resize controls and create multiple screens for different functions. Users can now schedule texts in the Messages app and utilize the new Genmoji tool for any emoji in Tapback. iPhone 14 and newer models also gain satellite messaging, allowing text communication without a cellular or Wi-Fi connection.
**Privacy Enhancements:**
iOS 18 strengthens privacy features with the ability to lock apps behind Face ID or Touch ID, and even hide them from the Home Screen entirely. Users can now grant apps access to select contacts instead of the entire contact list, providing more granular control over data sharing.
**Compatibility and Rollout:**
While the Apple Intelligence features will be exclusive to iPhone 15 Pro models and later, and devices with M-series chips, iOS 18 brings improvements to older iPhones as well. A new Game Mode boosts performance by minimizing background activity. The update is available for over 25 different iPhone models, starting from the latest iPhone 16 series down to older models like the iPhone SE (2nd generation).
**Note:** Apple Intelligence features will be available later this year with the release of iOS 18.1.
