Mon Sep 16 05:24:11 UTC 2024: ## Piastri Wins Thrilling Azerbaijan Grand Prix as Perez and Sainz Collide in Dramatic Finish
**Baku, Azerbaijan** – Oscar Piastri secured his second Formula 1 victory in a dramatic Azerbaijan Grand Prix, narrowly edging out Charles Leclerc in a race-long battle. The victory also propelled McLaren to the top of the constructors’ championship standings.
The race was filled with tension and action from start to finish, with several key moments shaping the final result. Piastri’s aggressive move on Leclerc at the start of Lap 20 proved decisive, giving him the lead he would ultimately maintain. However, the race was far from settled. A late-race collision between Red Bull’s Sergio Perez and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, while battling for third, resulted in a dramatic crash and a safety car period.
Perez and Sainz, both furious after the incident, are set to face investigation from race stewards. The crash gifted George Russell a surprise podium finish, while Lando Norris, on an alternate strategy, passed championship rival Max Verstappen for fourth.
Williams also celebrated a double points finish, with Alex Albon and Franco Colapinto scoring valuable points for the Grove-based team. Lewis Hamilton took ninth for Mercedes, while Haas stand-in Ollie Bearman secured the final points position.
“It was the most stressful afternoon of my life,” Piastri reflected after the race. “I had to go for it because I knew if I didn’t get past [Leclerc] at the start of the stint, I was never going to get past.”
The next race on the F1 calendar is the Singapore Grand Prix, taking place on September 20-22.
