Mon Sep 16 05:01:13 UTC 2024: ## Kejriwal Resigns as Delhi Chief Minister, Calls for Early Elections

**New Delhi:** In a stunning move that has sent shockwaves through Indian politics, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal resigned from his post on Sunday. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader announced his decision after being granted bail in a corruption case, arguing that he wants to “earn back the people’s trust” by seeking a fresh mandate.

Kejriwal, who has been embroiled in legal battles with the BJP-led central government, said he would not remain on the job until he receives a “certificate of honesty” from the public. He called for immediate elections in Delhi, triggering a flurry of reactions from political parties.

The BJP has branded Kejriwal’s resignation as a “drama” and a “confession of guilt.” Meanwhile, the Congress has lauded the decision, calling it a “step in the best interest of the people.”

The AAP, however, sees this as a “masterstroke” and a “bold move.” They believe it will allow the party to present its case to the public and garner widespread support.

This is Kejriwal’s second resignation as Delhi Chief Minister. His previous resignation in 2014, after only 49 days in office, was triggered by a lack of support from the Congress party.

Kejriwal’s move has sparked speculation about the future of the AAP and the potential candidates who could replace him. His wife, Sunita Kejriwal, and senior ministers Atishi and Gopal Rai are among those being considered.

The Delhi Assembly’s term is set to end in February 2024, with elections expected to be held in early February.
