**Hyderabad, India -** The World Avocado Organization (WAO), a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting avocado consumption, has launched its 2024 campaign in India. The campaign aims to educate consumers and food businesses about the health benefits of regular avocado consumption and explore ways to integrate the fruit into diverse Indian cuisines.
This year’s campaign is primarily supported by avocado growers from South Africa, a leading exporter of the fruit. South African avocados gained access to the Indian market earlier this year, opening up new avenues for growth for the country’s avocado industry.
Derek Donkin, CEO of the South African Avocado Growers’ Association (SAAGA), expressed enthusiasm about the Indian market, stating that “Historically, South Africa’s avocado exports have been largely focused on Europe and the United Kingdom, and these destinations account for 95% of its exports. However, with production increasing, the recent access to India offers promising new avenues for growth.”
WAO Chairman Zac Bard echoed this sentiment, noting the success of the 2023 campaign in India, which led to a significant increase in avocado consumption. Bard expressed confidence that the 2024 campaign will further build upon this momentum.
“With their natural nutritional wealth and versatility, avocados have become an integral part of modern diets across the globe. We envisage similar trends in India and foresee immense potential for avocados,” said Bard. “The demand is only going to increase as more discerning Indian consumers discover this amazing fruit, its health benefits, its taste and ways to incorporate avocados into daily meals.”
The campaign will feature collaborations with top Indian chefs and nutritionists who will showcase various ways to incorporate Hass avocados into Indian dishes. WAO is confident that the campaign will further solidify the avocado’s position as a superfood in India.
