Former Hollyoaks and The Bill actress Ali Bastian has revealed she was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer and is undergoing treatment. The 42-year-old, who moved to West Cork, Ireland with her family this year, discovered a lump while breastfeeding her daughter, Isabella.
Bastian, who married actor David O’Mahony in 2019, shared her diagnosis on Instagram and expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support she has received. She described the initial period after diagnosis as “a really tough time” and explained the difficulties in diagnosing breast cancer in younger women, particularly while breastfeeding.
“It’s important to be aware of any new or unusual changes to your breasts when you’re breastfeeding,” said a spokesperson for Breast Cancer Now, adding that the condition “is uncommon in younger women.”
Bastian is undergoing chemotherapy and will soon undergo radiotherapy treatment and a mastectomy. She has spoken candidly about her experience, emphasizing her desire to raise awareness for the condition, particularly amongst new mothers.
