KOTA KINABALU, Sabah – The Malaysian Communications Ministry announced a RM17.5 million injection into the Creative Content Fund (CCF) to support the growth of the nation’s film and music industries. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil revealed the allocation, with RM11 million dedicated to film and RM6.5 million for music.
This initiative aims to empower filmmakers and musicians to produce content that showcases Malaysia’s rich culture, diversity, and history to both domestic and international audiences.
The announcement was made following a meet-and-greet session with over 200 creative industry professionals from Sabah and Sarawak, where discussions revolved around challenges and opportunities for growth in the film and music sectors.
The film sector grants, managed by the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas), will be available in four categories starting Sept 16: Script Development Fund, First-Time Amateur Filmmaker Fund, Co-Production Fund for Fiction and Documentary Films, and the Documentary Fund.
The music industry grants, administered by MyCreative Ventures (MyCV), offer four categories from July 26 to Sept 30: Malayseana Music Fund (Creative Works Fund), Irama Perpaduan Fund (Creative Works Fund), Madani Gig Fund (Music Performance Fund), and Interactive Music Content Fund (Kami). Additionally, two other music industry categories, Dana Permata Muzik Negara and the International Marketing and Promotion Fund, will be open year-round.
Minister Fahmi emphasized that the CCF aims to create a competitive creative industry, generate positive economic impact, and cultivate globally competitive talent. Applications will be evaluated based on merit, feasibility, and marketability of projects, with the goal of enhancing the overall creative ecosystem within Malaysia.
Applications for the Film Sector CCF can be submitted online through Finas’ Creative Industry Management and Monitoring System, while Music Sector CCF applications are to be made via MyCreative Ventures. This initiative marks a significant step towards fostering a vibrant and thriving creative industry in Malaysia.
