Sat Sep 14 19:57:25 UTC 2024: ## Neeraj Chopra Finishes Second at Diamond League Final, Misses Out on Diamond Trophy
Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra secured the second position at the Diamond League Final in Brussels, Belgium on Saturday, narrowly missing out on the coveted Diamond Trophy. Despite a strong performance that saw him throw 87.86 meters in his third attempt, his effort fell just short of Grenada’s Anderson Peters, who claimed the championship title with a first-throw distance of 87.87 meters. This was a heart-breaking loss for Chopra, who had won the Diamond League title in 2022.
Chopra’s final throw of 86.46 meters in his sixth attempt was not enough to overtake Peters. His best performance during the final was his third throw of 87.86 meters.
Anderson Peters, the Diamond League champion, received the Diamond Trophy, a prize of $30,000, and a wildcard entry for the World Athletics Championships.
Neeraj Chopra, who had secured a silver medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 with a throw of 89.45 meters, had previously thrown a season-best 89.49 meters at the Lausanne Diamond League 2024.
This is a slight setback for Chopra as he continues his preparations for future events. However, his consistent performances demonstrate his dominance in the javelin throw arena.
