Sat Sep 14 19:58:02 UTC 2024: ## Aston Villa Thrill Villa Park as Duran’s Wonder Goal Sinks Everton

**Birmingham, UK** – Aston Villa mounted a stunning comeback to defeat Everton 3-2 at Villa Park on Saturday, leaving the Toffees rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table.

Everton, who had lost their last game after leading 2-0, started brightly and looked set for another improbable victory. Dwight McNeil opened the scoring, capitalizing on a misplaced pass from Amadou Onana to slot the ball past Emiliano Martinez. The lead was doubled shortly after as Dominic Calvert-Lewin headed in a McNeil free-kick.

However, Villa responded in style, pulling a goal back before halftime through Ollie Watkins. Calvert-Lewin then squandered a golden opportunity to put Everton back in control before Watkins leveled the score with a deft touch.

Jhon Duran, who had been linked with a move away from Villa in the summer, sealed the victory with a stunning long-range strike shortly after coming on as a substitute.

Despite a late chance for Calvert-Lewin, Everton couldn’t find an equalizer, leaving them with a fourth consecutive defeat.

“We’re certainly taking some knocks at the minute,” admitted Everton manager Sean Dyche. “Every mistake seems to be a goal, and every chance we don’t quite capitalize on.”

Villa manager Unai Emery was understandably delighted with the win, highlighting Duran’s impact: “His eight Premier League goals have come at a rate of one every 86 minutes.”

The result moves Villa into the top half of the table, while Everton’s misery continues. The Toffees have lost their first four games of the season for the first time in 66 years.
