Central Iowa is poised for a spectacular fall foliage display this year, according to local experts. After five years of drought, the region has experienced near-normal rainfall, which will result in vibrant fall colors thanks to healthy, well-hydrated trees.
Professor Paul Weihe, a biology expert at Central College, notes that the lack of stress on trees due to ample rainfall will lead to a more impressive fall foliage season. “I’m really delighted that we have near normal moisture across Iowa,” he says. “After several years of drought, conditions are much better and I think will affect our trees and our other crops and plants around us.”
The Iowa DNR anticipates peak fall foliage around mid-October, offering a scenic spectacle for nature enthusiasts and photographers alike. With the drought behind us, this year’s fall colors promise to be a vibrant and memorable display.
