**Washington, IN** – The Washington Hatchets hosted a successful cross country invitational on Saturday at the Sports Complex, with beautiful weather and strong competition from seven teams. The Hatchets boys team took third place, with senior Brody Wilson and sophomore Dane Perryman leading the way with top-ten finishes.
Wilson, the top Hatchet runner, placed fifth with a time of 18:34, while Perryman finished eighth at 18:52. The rest of the Hatchet boys team also had strong performances, with Daimyn Strickland (22nd), Gabriel Bertout (28th), Blake Barber (33rd), Zion Conder (35th), and Derek Osgatharp (42nd) all contributing to the team score.
Clay City took first place in the boys competition, with Jayden Hickenbotham claiming the individual win.
While the Hatchet girls team didn’t compete as a full scoring team, they had individual successes. Junior Paige Dills and senior Braleigh Armes both finished in the top 20, earning ribbons with times of 24:59 and 25:02 respectively.
Coach Tim Baxter expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, noting the improvement seen in each athlete. He praised Wilson’s leadership and the team’s effort in trying to “pack more together” for a stronger team showing.
The Hatchet girls team will continue to compete individually, with North Knox claiming victory in the girls’ competition.
