**BRUSSELS:** Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra narrowly missed out on a second Diamond Trophy title, finishing second in the final at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels on Saturday.
Chopra, the Olympic silver medalist, threw a distance of 87.86 meters on his third attempt, but it was just one centimeter short of Grenada’s Anderson Peters, who launched his javelin to an 87.87-meter mark on his first throw.
Peters, a two-time world champion, claimed his first Diamond Trophy, while Chopra received $12,000 for his second-place finish.
The Indian athlete, who had won the Diamond League in 2022 and finished second in 2023, qualified for the Brussels final by placing fourth in the overall Diamond League standings.
Chopra, who has been battling fitness issues this season, including a persistent groin injury, plans to consult a doctor about the ailment which he believes is preventing him from reaching his full potential.
Despite the setback in Brussels, Chopra has shown good form this season, achieving his second-best throw of 89.49 meters in Lausanne in August. He will be hoping to regain full fitness ahead of future competitions.
