The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced the postponement of the Eid-e-Milad holiday from Monday, September 16th to Wednesday, September 18th. This decision follows a similar announcement by the Maharashtra government, which rescheduled the holiday in Mumbai district to avoid a conflict with Anant Chaturdashi, the final day of Ganesh Chaturthi, observed on September 17th.
The Maharashtra government’s decision was made after the local Muslim community requested the change to ensure both festivals could be celebrated without logistical challenges. Ganpati Visarjan, the immersion of Ganesh idols, is a major event in Mumbai that draws large crowds.
Therefore, all RBI offices in Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburban will remain closed on September 18th, 2024.
This holiday adjustment aims to ensure smooth celebrations of both religious festivals and avoid potential conflicts and logistical hurdles.
