Charles Leclerc secured his fourth consecutive pole position in Baku for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, leading the race with a strong performance during qualifying. The Ferrari driver edged out McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and his teammate Carlos Sainz to claim the top spot.
Sergio Perez and George Russell finished fourth and fifth respectively, while Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton settled for sixth and seventh.
The qualifying session saw a bizarre incident involving Alex Albon. The Williams driver was forced to pull over on the track after an airbox cooler was left on his car during a pit lane exit. Albon, unable to complete his final push lap due to the incident, managed to remove the cooler himself and throw it to the side of the track. The incident is being investigated by the FIA.
Lando Norris surprisingly failed to progress past Q1, after aborting his final qualifying lap due to yellow flags brought about by Esteban Ocon.
