Sat Sep 14 13:57:56 UTC 2024: ## Kejriwal’s Release Sparks Fireworks Controversy: Delhi Police Files FIR Against AAP Supporters
**New Delhi:** The release of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal from Tihar Jail on Friday after being granted bail by the Supreme Court was met with jubilant celebrations by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supporters, who let off fireworks in a display of joy. However, this act of celebration has raised eyebrows, particularly given the recent ban on firecrackers imposed by the Delhi government.
Following the uproar, the Delhi police have registered an FIR against AAP supporters for violating the ban. Reports state that supporters had set off fireworks along the route from Tihar Jail to Kejriwal’s residence.
The incident has invited sharp criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which questioned the Delhi government’s selective enforcement of the ban. BJP leaders, including media spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor, accused AAP supporters of hypocrisy, pointing to the recent crackdown on firecrackers during Diwali.
Federation of Sadar Bazar Trades Association chairman Paramjit Singh Pammi also echoed these sentiments, lamenting the double standards employed by the AAP government, as merchants are barred from celebrating their festivals with firecrackers.
While AAP supporters celebrated Kejriwal’s release with fireworks, the incident highlights a complex and contentious issue surrounding the regulation of firecrackers and the subsequent impact on pollution.
