Thu Sep 12 22:47:19 UTC 2024: ## West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Protest Escalates: CM Offers Resignation, Doctors Remain Unshaken

**Kolkata, India -** The ongoing standoff between junior doctors in West Bengal and the state government has taken a dramatic turn. Following a month-long protest triggered by the brutal rape and murder of a junior doctor, the doctors refused to engage in talks with the government, further escalating the situation.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who had offered to resign “for the sake of the people,” claimed that the doctors were not seeking justice but rather her removal from office. “They are here for the chair, not justice,” she asserted at a press conference.

The doctors, however, maintain their demands for live-streaming of any future negotiations. They also insist on a delegation of 30 members and the presence of the Chief Minister at the talks.

The impasse stems from the doctors’ refusal to return to work despite a Supreme Court order. The Court warned that disciplinary action could be taken if they failed to comply.

The doctors, however, remain steadfast in their demands, claiming they are seeking transparency and accountability. “What is wrong with live-streaming? Is the demand unjustified?” questioned Dr. Aniket Mahato, a protesting doctor.

While the government has agreed to increase the delegation size, it has rejected the live-streaming request, citing the sensitive nature of the ongoing legal proceedings.

The standoff has sparked outrage and frustration among both the doctors and the public, who are deeply concerned about the lack of progress in resolving the issue. The CM’s offer to resign, while seemingly a desperate measure, has failed to appease the protesters.

It remains unclear how the situation will unfold, but the deadlock highlights the deep mistrust and frustration between the doctors and the government, raising serious questions about the future of healthcare in the state.
