Thu Sep 12 13:51:51 UTC 2024: ## Pale Waves Unveils Intimate and Reflective New Album “Smitten”

Manchester-based band Pale Waves has announced the release of their fourth studio album, “Smitten,” set for release on September 27th via Dirty Hit. This new album marks a departure from their previous work, showcasing a more personal and introspective sound influenced by the band’s personal growth and evolving musical tastes.

Vocalist Heather Baron-Gracie describes “Smitten” as a “romantic, delicate, and feminine” record that reflects on themes of love, loss, and self-discovery. The album draws inspiration from Heather’s own experiences, including her past relationships and journey as a queer woman.

“I wanted the record to feel romantic, delicate, and feminine. We love jangly guitars, but we also love a huge chorus,” says Heather. “I’ve learned that my voice is more like Dolores O’Riordan from The Cranberries. It wants to be Celtic-sounding, free, and fragile.”

“Smitten” is a collection of intimate snapshots of Heather’s life, exploring the full spectrum of emotions that come with first love and heartbreak. The album’s sound is a blend of retro-pop, gothic influences, and a stripped-back aesthetic inspired by country music artists like Kelsea Ballerini and Kacey Musgraves.

Heather emphasizes the importance of authenticity and honesty in her music. “It’s weird, because you wouldn’t go up to a stranger and ask for their darkest, deepest secrets, but when you create music, you’re almost expected to put them out into the world,” she explains. “The older I get, the more comfortable I am in my own skin, and the more willing I am to be honest.”

With “Smitten,” Pale Waves aims to create a safe space for their LGBTQIA+ fanbase, offering relatable narratives and representation. “Being queer is such a journey within itself, and there are so many challenges that come with it,” Heather says. “Now, I’m just being myself, but if I’m able to help the queer community and give them representation that they can connect with and relate to… that’s amazing.”

“Smitten” is a testament to Pale Waves’ evolution as a band, showcasing their growth both musically and personally. The album is set to be their most intimate and powerful work yet, offering a glimpse into Heather’s heart and mind while connecting with listeners on a deeply personal level.
