**San Francisco, CA – September 12, 2024** – Sony has released a major update for the PS5, adding a host of new features and improvements. The most prominent addition is the new “Welcome Hub,” a personalized space allowing players to prioritize and customize widgets to focus on their favorite features. The Welcome Hub replaces the Explore tab for US players and will gradually be rolled out to other regions, starting with Japan and select European countries.
The Welcome Hub lets users display widgets like console storage, trophies, and battery levels at a glance, and also offers the ability to change the background with a variety of preset options or custom screenshots from the Media Gallery.
Another key feature is the introduction of shareable party voice chat links. Players can now send these links via messaging or social media, allowing friends to join a party voice chat regardless of their friend list status. This feature enables anyone to join the party from their PS5 or the PlayStation App by simply clicking the link on their mobile device.
Additionally, several features previously under testing are now rolling out globally, including personalized 3D audio profiles, individual remote play options, and adaptive controller charging. The latter feature is only available for PS5 Slim and the newly announced PS5 Pro models.
These updates represent a significant improvement to the PS5 experience, offering enhanced customization and social features for gamers.
