**Jackson, MI** – Arthur Ream, 75, a convicted murderer and suspect in the disappearances of several young girls, died of cancer on August 15th at a prison hospital in Jackson, Michigan. His death was confirmed by the state Corrections Department.
Ream was serving a life sentence for the 1986 murder of 13-year-old Cindy Zarzycki. He led investigators to her remains in 2008, but maintained his innocence throughout his trial and subsequent imprisonment. During a videotaped interrogation, he admitted to being attracted to teenage girls and expressed remorse for Zarzycki’s death, but later recanted his confession.
Despite his conviction, Ream was suspected in the disappearances of several other young girls in the Detroit area. In 2018, authorities conducted an extensive excavation in a wooded area in Macomb Township, searching for the remains of up to seven missing girls, based on Ream’s statements to fellow inmates.
Among the possible victims were 12-year-old Kimberly King, who vanished in 1979; Kim Larrow, who disappeared in 1981 at the age of 15; and Kellie Brownlee, who vanished in 1982 at the age of 17. The search yielded no new discoveries.
Ream’s criminal history included a 1998 conviction for criminal sexual conduct involving a minor and a 1980 release from prison for a previous indecent liberties conviction. His death raises questions about the fate of the other missing girls and leaves a chilling reminder of the unresolved mysteries surrounding his life and crimes.
