**Seoul, South Korea** – Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) announced today that it is expanding its investment in Miesa, a company specializing in image analysis, as part of its strategy to enter the space services market. This follows the establishment of a joint venture, Miesa Planet, in April 2022, aimed at developing a satellite image analysis platform.
With Miesa recently merging with Miesa Planet, KAI has increased its investment in the combined entity, bringing its total investment to 7.76 billion KRW. This makes KAI the second largest shareholder in Miesa.
The move signifies KAI’s commitment to leveraging satellite image analysis across various sectors, including aviation, where it plans to use the technology for aerial image analysis and 3D mapping. KAI also aims to use Miesa’s data as offsets in aircraft exports and integrate it into its simulation development business for 3D map creation.
“Through the merger, we expect Miesa to become a comprehensive imaging solutions company encompassing both drones and satellites,” said KAI President Kang Goo-young.
The growing demand for satellite image data, driven by technologies like 3D reconstruction, AI, and big data, has expanded beyond traditional government usage to include private business sectors. This technology has the potential to create new markets across industries including resource exploration, climate change monitoring, disaster response, and even crop and oil price prediction.
KAI’s investment in Miesa highlights the increasing importance of satellite image analysis in a world where data and technology are driving innovation across diverse sectors.
