**Helena, MT** – John Gilbert of Helena Capital took the lead in the Helena Invitational golf tournament after a stellar first round at Bill Roberts Golf Course on Thursday. Gilbert shot a 68, including a blistering 32 on the front nine thanks to an eagle on the ninth hole and two birdies. He finished with a two-shot lead over Cooper Bourret of Bozeman and Zander Brester of Billings West, who both shot 70.
Helena Capital also holds the lead in the team competition, with a score of +10, putting them four strokes ahead of Bozeman (+14) and Billings West (+16).
In the girls tournament, Hanna Boyd of Great Falls High leads after shooting a 78 (+6). Becca Washington of Billings West is close behind with a score of +7, while Anna Fenhaus of West sits five shots back at +11. The Golden Bears are leading the girls tournament with a score of +69, but hold a slim three-shot lead heading into Friday’s final round.
The tournament will resume at 9 a.m. on Friday.
