Thu Sep 12 14:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Mysuru MLA Accuses State Government of Discriminatory Advertising Practices

Mysuru: Krishnaraja MLA T.S. Srivatsa has condemned the Karnataka state government for allegedly discriminating against the Star of Mysore and its sister publication, Mysuru Mithra, in the allocation of government advertisements. He has announced that he will personally meet the Chief Secretary and the Commissioner of Information and Public Relations to address this issue.

Srivatsa, echoing the criticism of BJP State President B.Y. Vijayendra, claims that the denial of government advertisements to widely circulated newspapers is a tactic to arm-twist the media. He stated, “Government advertisements are funded by public tax money, not political party funds. If the government denies advertisements to newspapers, how will its programs reach the people?”

He further asserted that the Congress government’s actions reflect an authoritarian approach and a mentality of “coming to power” and then using it to suppress dissent.

The Star of Mysore, a popular evening daily in Mysuru, has served the city for over 45 years, boasting a readership of over 250,000. Srivatsa’s intervention raises questions about the transparency and fairness of government advertising practices in the state.
