Thu Sep 12 20:36:00 UTC 2024: ## Ekiti State RAAMP Pays N71 Million Compensation to Farmers, Begins Road Construction

**Ado Ekiti, Nigeria** – The Ekiti State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) has announced the disbursement of N71,481,380 in compensation to 217 farmers and other Project Affected Persons (PAPs) impacted by 12 out of the 13 roads awarded in July.

The State Project Coordinator, Hon Sunday Adunmo, emphasized the importance of compensation as a crucial step in the project, ensuring fair treatment for those affected by the road construction. He confirmed that site clearing has been completed on 12 roads, with a delay in compensation payment for the Igbole-Egan-Osi-Iropora road due to revalidation of PAPs.

While construction is underway, the project boasts impressive progress on the Oye-Are road and Ben Folarin-Omisanjana-Oke Aso road, with work already reaching the concrete stage. The coordinator expressed optimism about the Oye-Are road’s completion within 12 months if the current pace is maintained.

To guarantee quality and prevent shoddy work, the ongoing construction is under strict monitoring by the Project Monitoring Committee and various government agencies.

Adunmo highlighted the project’s economic benefits, including the creation of employment opportunities for skilled and unskilled labor within the project-affected communities. Contractors have been mandated to source construction materials locally, aiming to boost the State’s economy and curb capital flight.

In addition to the ongoing road projects, RAAMP plans to award more road contracts within the next few weeks and is set to revisit five pilot roads initiated in 2021 for upgrading. These include Itaji-Orisunmibare road, Iyin-Odo Oro-Aroto road, Ago Aduloju-Kajola road, Imesi-Kosomolate -Ipole road, and Ogotun-Alagbede road.
