Fri Sep 13 16:07:05 UTC 2024: ## Kejriwal Walks Free: Supreme Court Grants Bail in Excise Policy Case, BJP Demands Resignation

**New Delhi:** Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was released from Tihar Jail on Friday evening after being granted bail by the Supreme Court in the corruption case related to the city’s excise policy. The AAP supremo was greeted by cheering supporters, his wife Sunita Kejriwal, and senior party leaders including Manish Sisodia, Atishi, and Bhagwant Mann.

Kejriwal addressed the crowd, thanking them for their support and claiming his morale had been boosted by his time in jail. He asserted his commitment to the country and his belief that God had supported him throughout his hardships because of his honesty.

However, the Supreme Court’s bail order came with conditions. Kejriwal is barred from visiting the Chief Minister’s Office or signing any official documents. This has led the BJP to demand his immediate resignation, claiming his continued presence as Chief Minister while being an accused in the case is inappropriate.

BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia labelled Kejriwal “outright dishonest” and accused the Supreme Court of exposing his misdeeds. Meanwhile, the AAP vehemently defended Kejriwal, terming the bail order a victory against the BJP’s “dictatorship” and demanding an apology for the “false” accusations against their leader.

The case, which involves allegations of corruption in the implementation of the Delhi Excise Policy, has been a significant political battleground. Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in March and spent several months in prison before being granted interim bail in May for campaigning during the Lok Sabha elections. His subsequent surrender in June brought him back into custody.

With the Supreme Court’s decision, the political drama surrounding the excise policy case takes a new turn. While Kejriwal’s release marks a victory for his party, the BJP’s calls for his resignation highlight the ongoing tension between the two parties. The case is expected to continue in court, and its outcome will have significant implications for the future of Delhi’s political landscape.
