Thu Sep 12 06:05:42 UTC 2024: ## Samsung Faces Dilemma: Exynos or Snapdragon for Galaxy S25?

**Seoul, Korea –** Samsung Electronics faces a critical decision regarding its flagship Galaxy S25 smartphone: stick with its own Exynos processors or switch to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips.

Despite years of investment in its own chipset production, Samsung is struggling to achieve the required yield rate for its next-generation Exynos 2500 chip, which is manufactured using a cutting-edge 3-nanometer process. This has led to speculation that the Galaxy S25 will exclusively feature Snapdragon chips, increasing production costs by up to 30 percent.

The decision comes as a blow to Samsung’s ambition to compete with TSMC, the Taiwanese foundry giant that dominates the chip market. TSMC has secured Apple and Qualcomm as key clients, while Samsung’s 3-nanometer yield rate remains significantly below its target.

While Samsung may consider using Exynos 2500 in its foldable models, the company’s reliance on Qualcomm for the S25 highlights the challenges Samsung faces in developing its own high-performance chips.

The decision will impact Samsung’s production costs and potentially device prices, as Snapdragon chips are generally more expensive than Exynos.

“The differences between Exynos and Qualcomm chips are not about performance but about strategy,” said a Samsung official, “The chip buyers will choose (based) on their own needs.”

Samsung’s chip dilemma underscores the fierce competition in the global semiconductor market and the importance of staying at the forefront of advanced manufacturing technology.
