**Kathmandu, September 11, 2024:** Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane has urged Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to refrain from removing the Deputy Speaker, calling such a move a “suicide goal.” Lamichhane, who met with Oli on Wednesday to discuss the ongoing talks surrounding the Deputy Speaker’s position, expressed concerns about the potential ramifications of such a move.
Lamichhane highlighted that a move to remove the Deputy Speaker would be detrimental to the ruling parties, as it would alienate the majority of the parliament. He pointed out that Nepali Congress and CPN-UML votes represent only 30% of the eligible voters, while 70% are represented by other parties, including RSP. He warned that a 30% faction challenging the 70% majority would be a “suicide goal” and a mistake.
Lamichhane urged the government, which holds a two-thirds majority, to focus on other priorities and not misuse their authority. He expressed his concern about the inconsistencies in responses regarding the Deputy Speaker issue and emphasized the need for a wise and measured approach.
Despite Lamichhane’s warnings, Oli reportedly indicated that he is engaged in discussions with the Nepali Congress regarding the Deputy Speaker’s position.
