The Labour Party has accused its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and prominent activist Aisha Yesufu of financial misconduct during the 2023 presidential election campaign. The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, made the allegations at a press conference in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Wednesday.
Arabambi claimed that Yesufu, alongside Pastor Itua Ighodalo and other unnamed individuals, mismanaged and diverted over ₦12 billion and $15 million in donations meant for the Labour Party’s campaign. He further alleged that Yesufu and her associates acted under Obi’s direction to defraud the party.
He also implicated Afenifere leaders, including Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Akin Osuntokun, and Sola Ebiseni, accusing them of retaining over ₦600 million in private accounts linked to Afenifere.
Arabambi dismissed Yesufu’s denial of the allegations as an attempt to cover up the alleged financial misconduct. He called Obi a “political merchant” and described the actions of those implicated as “looting, criminal conspiracy, and diversion of funds.”
The Labour Party has pledged transparency and accountability and has called for an investigation into all bank accounts associated with the alleged misconduct.
Yesufu has denied the allegations.
