MG Motor India has launched its new electric crossover, the MG Windsor EV, in the Indian market, priced at an attractive ₹9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). However, this price comes with a catch – a battery rental cost of ₹3.5 per kilometer. This means, for an annual mileage of 50,000 km, the battery rental would amount to approximately ₹1.75 lakh.
The Windsor EV comes in three variants – Excite, Exclusive, and Essence – and four color options. It boasts a spacious cabin with a length of 3 meters, a width of 1.85 meters, a height of 1.67 meters, and a wheelbase of 2700 mm. The exterior features include LED headlamps, a connecting LED lighting bar, connected taillamps, pop-up door handles, a floating roofline, and 18-inch chrome alloy wheels.
Inside, the Windsor EV features a striking all-black theme with a wooden dashboard and leatherette seats. The highlight of the cabin is the 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which offers control over music, climate control, and other functions, similar to premium EVs like Tesla. Other noteworthy features include front ventilated seats, a 369-degree camera, a glass roof, climate control with rear AC vents, connected car technology, voice control, geo-app support, USB charging ports, a tire pressure monitoring system, six airbags, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, and a rear reclining seat that can be rotated electronically up to 135 degrees for a business-class airplane experience.
Powered by a 38 kWh battery pack, the Windsor EV boasts a claimed range of 331 km on a single charge. Its electric motor, powering the front wheels, generates a maximum power of 134 bhp and a peak torque of 200 Nm. Four driving modes – Eco, Eco+, Normal, and Sport – provide different driving experiences tailored to various road conditions.
MG Motor India offers an unlimited battery warranty on the Windsor EV. Additionally, the company provides free charging through MG eHub and a buyback facility for one year.
The MG Windsor EV will compete against popular electric cars like the Tata Nexon EV, Tata Punch, and Mahindra XUV400 in the Indian market. Bookings for the Windsor EV will open on October 3rd, 2023, with deliveries commencing on October 13th, 2023.
