Mumbai: Anil Mehta, father of Bollywood actress Malaika Arora, died by suicide on Wednesday. According to police reports, Mehta had been suffering from illness and depression. His wife, Joyce, revealed in her police statement that Mehta had been reading the newspaper on the balcony as usual. However, when Joyce found his slippers in the living room, she searched for him and discovered him unconscious on the balcony. The watchman alerted authorities after witnessing the incident.
The couple had been living together again after years of separation. Mehta had taken voluntary retirement from the Merchant Navy due to his health issues.
Malaika and her sister Amrita were reportedly devastated by the news. Amrita had even visited her parents’ home the previous night and appeared happy before leaving. The police are currently investigating the matter, and a forensic team has been dispatched to the scene.
Malaika and Amrita left their parents’ home after spending several hours with their mother following the tragedy.
