Wed Sep 11 09:34:38 UTC 2024: ## Award-Winning Documentary Producer Lightbox Debuts Scripted Drama with “Gunpowder Siege”

**London, UK** – Renowned documentary production company Lightbox, known for their award-winning work, is venturing into scripted territory with their first fully-fledged drama, “Gunpowder Siege.” The three-part series, premiering on Sky History on November 4th, will delve into the lesser-known aspects of the infamous Gunpowder Plot.

While the traditional narrative focuses on Guy Fawkes and the failed assassination attempt on King James I in 1605, “Gunpowder Siege” takes a different approach. The series begins after Fawkes was apprehended, highlighting the desperate escape of the plot’s true leaders: Robert Catesby, Thomas Wintour, and Thomas Percy. The drama explores their motivations, portraying them not as mere conspirators but as revolutionaries fighting for Catholic freedom.

“Gunpowder Siege” boasts a strong cast, including Chuku Modu (Game of Thrones) as Robert Catesby, Luke Hobson (Mary Queen of Scots) as Thomas Wintour, and Luke Roberts (Holby City) as Thomas Percy. The series is written by Noel McCann (Blue Lights) and directed by Mark Everest.

Simon Chinn and Jonathan Chinn, founders of Lightbox, along with Vanessa Tovell, serve as executive producers. Sphere Abacus will handle worldwide distribution, presenting the show at Mipcom in Cannes next month.

Executives from Sky History and A+E Networks EMEA are enthusiastic about the collaboration. Dan Korn, VP of Programming for A+E Networks EMEA, praised the “innovative and dynamic reinterpretation” of the historical event. Hayley Reynolds, acting director of documentaries and factual for Sky History, acknowledged the significance of the annual 5th November celebration, while highlighting the overlooked nuances of the Gunpowder Plot story.

“Gunpowder Siege” promises to provide a fresh and engaging perspective on a historical event that continues to fascinate audiences centuries later.
