Tue Sep 10 16:21:57 UTC 2024: ## Rattlers Take Advantage of Bye Week to Focus on Fundamentals and Turnover Creation

Tallahassee, FL – The Florida A&M Rattlers are enjoying a well-deserved bye week after a tough start to the season. Despite a 2-1 record and a 22nd ranking in the FCS Coaches Poll, FAMU is looking to improve on some crucial aspects of their game.

“Ball security falls on wins and losses,” said quarterback Daniel Richardson, acknowledging the team’s six fumbles, including three lost, in their first three games. Head Coach James Colzie III is taking a back-to-basics approach, emphasizing ball security drills for both offense and defense.

Meanwhile, the FAMU defense, despite a strong performance last season, is yet to force a turnover this year. All-American cornerback Kendall Bohler is leading the charge, with friendly competition amongst the secondary to secure the first interception of the season.

“Once you catch one pick, it gets contagious a little bit,” said Bohler. “We’re waiting on our first one, and it’ll keep rolling in from there on.”

Beyond turnovers, the Rattlers are also focusing on communication and defensive coverages after giving up early touchdowns against Miami. The bye week provides an opportunity for the team to refresh physically and mentally before facing Troy in Week 4.

“Thankful it came a little early in the season to get our bodies right for Troy,” said Bohler.

The Rattlers will take advantage of this break to work on their fundamentals, improve communication, and return to the field with a renewed focus on turning the tide in their favor. Their next game against Troy on September 21st will be a crucial test of their progress.
