Thu Sep 12 06:15:52 UTC 2024: ## Afghanistan-New Zealand Test Match Faces Abandonment Due to Persistent Rain

**GREATER NOIDA, INDIA** – The much-anticipated one-off test match between Afghanistan and New Zealand in Greater Noida, India, is on the verge of being abandoned without a single ball bowled. This follows four consecutive days of rain that has plagued the region, making the pitch unplayable.

The Shahid Vijay Singh Pathik Sport Complex, hosting the match, has been lashed by rain for the past two weeks. On Thursday, umpires were forced to call off play due to the persistent downpour. With more rain forecast throughout the week, the match is likely to become the eighth test in history to be abandoned before a single ball is bowled.

Afghanistan, due to security concerns, plays its home matches abroad, and this was their first test at the Greater Noida venue. Previously, the complex hosted 11 of their “home” limited-overs matches. The Afghanistan Cricket Board reportedly chose Greater Noida over two other Indian venues due to its proximity to Delhi, making travel from Kabul easier.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) will now determine whether the venue will face any sanctions, based on the report filed by match referee Javagal Srinath.
