**Bengaluru:** Karnataka’s Minister for Housing, Minorities Welfare, and Waqf, Zameer Ahmed Khan, has highlighted the significant focus on minority community development since the Congress government took power in the state. Speaking at the inauguration of a benefit distribution program organized by the Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation on Wednesday, Khan emphasized the government’s commitment to empowering the community.
Khan asserted that the budget allocated for the minority community was reduced during the previous BJP government’s tenure. However, following the Congress’ return to power, a substantial Rs 3200 crore has been allocated, with Rs 1480 crore specifically directed towards education. This investment has enabled lakhs of students from the community to pursue higher education, including medical and engineering courses, study abroad, and receive training for civil services.
The minister lauded Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for his efforts, crediting the Congress’ leadership for the progress witnessed in the community. He also praised the efforts of the Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation, specifically B.K. Altaf Khan, the President, for his dedicated leadership in driving change.
Several programs have been planned by the corporation to support education and self-reliant living for the community. Benefits worth Rs 7.86 crore were distributed at the event, including 177 auto rickshaws, 68 taxis, and 30 goods vehicles, benefiting a total of 579 people.
Furthermore, Khan announced a decision to conduct a survey of individuals without housing and land in the state. The government aims to provide shelter for every family, a promise made possible by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s concern for the poor. A revolutionary decision to build houses for 2.32 lakh poor people has already been made.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Chief Minister’s Political Secretary Naseer Ahmad, who praised Zameer Ahmed Khan for his leadership in bringing the community together. He underscored the importance of unity within the community.
