Indore, Madhya Pradesh: A 22-year-old woman suffering from chronic myeloid leukemia, a deadly form of blood cancer, has given birth to healthy twins at the Government Super Specialty Hospital in Indore. Doctors are calling it a rare case, citing the challenge of ensuring a safe delivery while managing her cancer.
The woman, who was unaware of her diagnosis until after pregnancy, was admitted to the hospital with a significantly elevated white blood cell count. This prevented doctors from administering her usual cancer medication and chemotherapy during pregnancy.
Consultations with experts in India and abroad led to a specialized treatment plan using medicines that would not harm the mother or the developing twins. The woman delivered a boy and a girl through a normal delivery, and both mother and babies are in good health.
Doctors at the hospital emphasized the rarity of this successful outcome, stating that few cases of safe deliveries for women with chronic myeloid leukemia have been recorded worldwide. The birth of the twins has brought joy to the woman and her family.
