Tue Sep 10 14:07:59 UTC 2024: ## Cold Snap to Hit Spain, Bringing Snow to Pyrenees and Chilly Temps to Northern Provinces

**Malaga, Spain** – Spain is set to experience a sudden cold snap this week, with temperatures plummeting as low as 5 degrees Celsius in many central and northern areas. The chilly air mass, described as “unusually cold” for this time of year, is expected to sweep across the country from Thursday to Friday, affecting the Balearic Islands and large parts of the north.

According to Spain’s state weather agency Aemet, snow is forecast in the Pyrenees and some mountainous areas at elevations between 1,400 and 1,800 meters. The coldest day will be Friday, with temperatures in at least a dozen provincial capitals, including Avila, Bilbao, and Valladolid, dropping to between 5 and 9 degrees Celsius.

While the northern regions brace for the cold, the southern parts of Spain, including the Costa del Sol and Andalucia, will remain relatively unaffected, with highs staying in the high 20s throughout the week. The cold front is expected to bring “abundant cloudiness and precipitation” to the far north, with showers also possible in the Balearic Islands.

By Saturday, the cold snap is expected to retreat, making way for higher-than-average temperatures, particularly in the west of the country.
