Mon Sep 09 14:44:50 UTC 2024: ## Bad Ass Café in Dublin’s Temple Bar Faces Planning Rebuke Over Signage

**Dublin, Ireland** – The Bad Ass Café, a popular restaurant located in Dublin’s Temple Bar, has been denied planning permission for a range of signs, including the iconic “Bad Ass” illuminated sign above its entrance on Crown Alley.

The Dublin City Council deemed the proposed signage “overly dominant and out of character” with the surrounding area, citing concerns over clutter and a potential negative impact on the protected structure.

The restaurant, which is a protected structure, had applied for retention permission for the existing “Bad Ass” sign, as well as several proposed upgrades to its façade. However, council planners rejected the application, arguing that the proposed changes would be “excessive and cluttered.”

The council’s decision also highlighted numerous unauthorized works undertaken by the restaurant, including the unauthorized installation of several signs, a large speaker, and an outdoor seating area.

The Bad Ass Café is facing a series of enforcement notices related to the unauthorized works and has been ordered to address the issues raised by the council.

Local residents have also expressed concerns regarding the planning status of the signage and other additions to the building.

The council’s refusal to grant planning permission emphasizes the importance of adhering to regulations and preserving the character of protected structures within the city’s historical areas.
