Mon Sep 09 14:50:00 UTC 2024: ## Patti Scialfa, Bruce Springsteen’s Wife and E Street Band Member, Reveals Cancer Diagnosis in New Documentary

**Toronto, Canada** – Patti Scialfa, the wife of legendary musician Bruce Springsteen and a long-time member of the E Street Band, has revealed she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer, in 2018. The news came via a new documentary titled “Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band,” which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sunday.

In the film, Scialfa, 71, discusses the challenges touring has posed since her diagnosis. “The cancer affects my immune system, so I have to be careful what I choose to do and where I choose to go,” she explains. She adds, “Every once in a while, I come to a show or two and I can sing a few songs on stage, and that’s been a treat. That’s the new normal for me right now, and I’m OK with that.”

While the documentary doesn’t disclose whether Scialfa is currently in remission or undergoing treatment, it does shed light on her journey with cancer and the adjustments she has made to her life.

During a post-screening panel discussion, Springsteen acknowledged his wife’s absence without directly mentioning her cancer diagnosis. “I can look to my left, [Stevie Van Zandt is] there,” he said. “My right, Nils [Lofgren] is there. When Patti’s able to make it, I can see her there. … I’m not alone.”

“Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band” is set to be released on Hulu and Disney+ on October 25th.
