**WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.** – Purdue University has announced record enrollment numbers for the fall 2024 semester, hitting a total of 58,009 students across its West Lafayette and Indianapolis campuses. This surge in enrollment is attributed to a combination of factors, including a record number of applicants, a more selective admissions process, and a higher-than-average yield rate.
The university received a record-breaking 78,526 applications for the fall semester, but admitted only 49.8% of them, marking the lowest admission rate in Purdue’s history. Despite the highly selective admissions process, the yield rate – the percentage of admitted students who ultimately enroll – reached 29.1%, surpassing the 10-year trend and marking the highest since Purdue began using the Common Application.
This success is further amplified by the expansion of Purdue’s main campus into Indianapolis, where 760 new students enrolled this fall. The new Indianapolis campus, established after the dissolution of IUPUI, has contributed significantly to the record-breaking enrollment figures.
The record-setting enrollment encompasses 44,170 undergraduate students, representing all 50 states and over 120 countries, including a significant increase in underrepresented minority students. Graduate enrollment also reached a record high with 12,917 students pursuing advanced degrees, demonstrating a growing interest in higher education.
Purdue’s commitment to affordability remains steadfast, with tuition rates frozen for Indiana residents at $9,992 per year and $28,794 for out-of-state students for the past 12 years. This affordability, coupled with a high-quality education, has attracted a highly qualified student body, evidenced by the average SAT score of 1,328 and average beginning-student GPA of 3.76, both all-time highs.
