Tue Sep 10 14:09:00 UTC 2024: ## King Charles and Queen Camilla to Embark on Royal Tour of Australia in October
**Sydney, Australia** – King Charles III and Queen Camilla will undertake a four-day royal tour of Australia in October, their first official visit since the coronation. The tour, scheduled for October 18-22, will include stops in Sydney and Canberra.
This marks the King’s first visit as sovereign, following his 15 previous trips to Australia during his time as Prince of Wales. It will also be Queen Camilla’s first visit as Queen Consort, after three previous visits as Duchess of Cornwall.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expressed his excitement about welcoming the royal couple back to Australia, highlighting the tour as an opportunity to showcase “the best of Australia – our rich culture, our sense of community, and contributions to science, research and global progress.”
The couple will participate in a variety of engagements, including a fleet review of the Royal Australian Navy in Sydney Harbour, a community barbecue, and meetings with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representatives. Queen Camilla will focus on her literacy work, visiting a library and meeting children participating in a Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition workshop.
The tour will also include a visit to Canberra, where the royal couple will be welcomed at Parliament House by Prime Minister Albanese. They will also visit the Australian War Memorial and the Australian National Botanic Gardens.
While the King’s health remains a priority, Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the itinerary will be subject to doctors’ advice, with modifications possible if necessary.
The royal couple were originally scheduled to visit New Zealand as well, but that portion of the tour has been canceled on doctors’ orders.
The King’s visit comes as he continues his cancer treatment. Despite this, he is committed to honoring his responsibilities as monarch, and visiting Australia has been a top priority for him.
