Mon Sep 09 15:37:40 UTC 2024: ## Italian Tennis Star Jannik Sinner Wins US Open, Dedicate Victory to Ailing Aunt

**NEW YORK** – Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner claimed his first US Open title on Sunday, defeating American Taylor Fritz in straight sets. The victory marks his second Grand Slam title this year, following his Australian Open triumph in January.

Sinner, however, wasn’t celebrating solely for personal glory. He dedicated the win to his aunt, who has been battling health issues.

“She is very important,” Sinner shared on the TODAY show. “She struggles with health at the moment. You can’t really do anything, so it’s a tough moment, not only for me because it’s also the sister of my mom, so all things considered, it’s not an easy moment for our family.”

The 23-year-old athlete revealed that his aunt played a significant role in his childhood, often taking him to ski races while his parents worked. “It’s a very difficult moment,” he said. “She is a very important person in my life because my parents, they used to work all the time, and every time when I came back home after school, my parents weren’t there, my aunt sometimes arrived.”

Sinner’s emotional win comes amidst a turbulent season. He tested positive for a banned substance twice earlier this year but was cleared after an investigation determined it was accidental ingestion.

Despite the controversy, Sinner has gone on to win three tournaments since the positive tests and has now made history as the first Italian man to win the US Open.

“Obviously, this season hasn’t been easy, but the success has been massive, and obviously, we keep aiming for more, but we always have to be very happy to keep working,” Sinner shared.

Sinner’s dedication to his aunt and his resilience in the face of adversity have cemented his place as a true champion, both on and off the court.
