Wed Sep 11 06:58:36 UTC 2024: ## Huawei Unveils Tri-Fold Mate XT Smartphone, Challenging Apple’s iPhone 16 Launch
**BEIJING –** Chinese tech giant Huawei has launched its highly anticipated tri-fold smartphone, the Mate XT, priced starting at $2,809. The phone, which began accepting pre-orders on Saturday, is set to hit stores on September 20 – the same day Apple’s iPhone 16 series is slated to launch, including in China.
The Mate XT boasts a 10.2-inch screen that can display content on a single, double, or triple screen, and features a 1.9mm thick battery. The phone also incorporates a foldable keyboard and boasts AI capabilities including text translation and cloud-based content generation.
“We have spent five years striving for this,” said Richard Yu, Huawei’s executive director and chairman of the board of directors of the consumer business group, highlighting the company’s resilience despite US sanctions imposed in 2019.
The Mate XT launch comes at a time when Huawei is seeking to regain its footing in the smartphone market. Following US sanctions, the company faced significant challenges but has shown signs of recovery, particularly in China. Notably, the recent release of the Mate 60 Pro, which is equipped with a 7-nanometer chip manufactured by Chinese chipmaker SMIC, has boosted sales in the Chinese market.
This launch also coincides with the release of Apple’s iPhone 16 series, featuring the new A18 chip, built with advanced 3-nanometer technology, that the company claims significantly increases speed compared to the iPhone 12. While Huawei did not mention any specific chip developments during the Mate XT launch, the company’s continued focus on AI and innovative technology showcases its determination to compete in the global smartphone market.
With more than 4 million pre-orders already secured, Huawei’s Mate XT is poised to make a significant impact on the smartphone market. The phone’s unique tri-fold design and advanced features present a compelling alternative to Apple’s latest offerings, intensifying the competition between the two tech giants.
